Valentine for Charlotte
She saw her grandma and grandpa
With ashes on their head
“I wanna ashtray too”, she said
So we gave her some of ours
It didn’t make her happy
She sat and pouted
Ashes from the priest
Is what the little girl wanted
Not second hand blessings
The kind that could be doubted
So maybe a valentine
Would make this little darling smile
Some special joy for Charlotte
Our gift of hearts for topping off her pile
A simple note to let her know she’s loved
Wishing her so many blessings from above
A memory to share with her kids
When she’s a mommy too
Then she’ll know the way we feel
A family full of grace
With love that has no measure
And how no matter where we roam
She’ll always be our treasure.
