THE 4TH ANNUAL IRISH AMERICAN MOVIE HOOLEY

When a party gets rowdy, the Irish call it a “hooley.”

Mike Houlihan, Irish American Radio personality and Chairman of Hibernian Transmedia NFP, announced today that SLANE IRISH WHISKEY will be sponsoring this year’s 4th Annual Irish American Movie Hooley at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Sept. 28, 29, and 30th.  Houlihan said, “We’re thrilled to be working with Slane Irish Whiskey in bringing the world’s only Irish American film festival once again to Chicago. Great films and great whiskey are a combination that defines what we continue to do each year presenting Chicago premieres of films with an Irish and Irish American origin.”

The Irish American Movie Hooley started in 2015 as a cooperative presentation of Hibernian Transmedia and The Gene Siskel Film Center at 164 North State Street in Chicago. Now in its 46th year of public programming., the Film Center of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) has presented world-class independent, international, and classic cinema. Renamed in honor of the late film critic in 2000, the Gene Siskel Film Center presents approximately 1,500 screenings and 100 guest artist appearances each year to over 65,000 film enthusiasts at its unique, sophisticated, modern facilities, which have been operating since June 2001 at 164 N. State Street in Chicago.

“We at the Gene Siskel Film Center are pleased to once again team up with Hibernian Transmedia, presenting the latest and the best work by Irish and Irish American filmmakers.  The 2017 Irish American Movie Hooley played host to enthusiastic audiences eager to discuss the films.  It’s a great way to create community around the work and to provide a boost to emerging talent.  This is what our mission is all about.” said Siskel Program Director Barbara Scharres.

Hibernian Transmedia NFP is a public charity founded in 2013 to provide a platform to present, produce, and create educational content that promotes and preserves Irish and Irish-American culture through film, TV, radio, theatre, literature, and the Internet. “We tell stories to enlighten future generations while honoring our ancestors.”, Houlihan said.

Other sponsors of The 4th Annual Irish American Movie Hooley include The Hilton Chicago, McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, and The Emerald Loop Irish bar and grill around the corner from the Siskel Center at 216 North Wabash.
