The Beverly Art Center will host a special screening of Mike Houlihan’s comic documentary film, “Our Irish Cousins”, on Saturday night, May 25th at 7PM. Tickets are $12 and Houlihan will be present for a post-screening discussion of the film.

OUR IRISH COUSINS recently premiered at the 16th Annual European Union Film Festival last March at The Gene Siskel Film Center.  Houlihan is a former features columnist for The Chicago Sun-Times, co-host of WCEV radio’s Irish Hour, “The Skinny & Houli Show”, and has been writing the Hooliganism column in the Irish American News since 1996.

The film garnered a rave review from Peter Sobczynski of RogerEbert.com,

http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/our-irish-cousins-2013, which concluded,

“Although those of Irish descent are clearly the target audience for “Our Irish Cousins,” a good part of the secret to its success is that you don’t have to be from the Emerald Isle to appreciate it. No matter where you come from or how much corned beef you’ve consumed in your lifetime, you’ll most likely find that Houlihan’s observations about the importance of examining and coming to terms with one’s heritage still ring true.”

Filled with Irish music and laughter, “Our Irish Cousins” features many Irish musicians, comedians, and personalities including Maureen O’Looney, Paddy Homan, Maurice Lennon, Dennis Cahill, Eleanor Tiernan, Jaymo Doyle, Eithne Fitzpatrick, 1953 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Lattner, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, The Yiddish Sons of Erin, Madeleine Taylor Quinn, Des Bishop and a cast of thousands.

Houlihan grew up in the Beverly neighborhood and has debuted many of his theatrical and film projects at the Beverly Art Center over the years, including, most recently, a sneak preview of a rough cut of OUR IRISH COUINS last year. The film will hit the festival circuit for the rest of 2013 starting in June.

Don’t miss this call home from Hibernia to the global Diaspora of Ireland.
